Vintage Industrial Decor Ideas

Industrial Decor – In interior design and home decor, there are many styles to choose from. There is a “pure” style and then a mix-n-match style. Two more common styles are rustic chic look and industrial appearance. Many people think that this appearance is the same. I’m here to explain why they don’t have the same style. First, a few questions. What do you think of when I say rural chic? Do you think of a farmhouse, feel a wooden cabin with wooden tables and open beams? Or do you think of quilts, wood taken over with chicken wire and galvanized metal? Both of these descriptions are true when talking about rural chic.

Now, what do you think of when I say an industrial design style? Do you think of hardwood, pipes and other metals? Maybe dark, neutral colors, old typewriters, and wood burning stoves? If so, they have the right idea for an industrial design. Both rural chic design and industrial design have common elements but they have different differences. Let’s look at each individually and then maybe we can really see the difference.

Rustic Chic

Rustic chic design is lighter, more feminine, and focuses on natural wood colors or light stains. Such as bright colored paint and pressed wood. Decoration items include mismatched devices, chicken wire, galvanized metal, open wooden beams, and special wood furniture. The easiest way for me to remember rural chic is to think of a perfect little farmhouse in a meadow with simple colors and items used.

Industrial Decor Modern

Industrial design is darker and more masculine. It has dark neutral colors and dark forests. It combines many polished or brushed metals. Common features include open channels, pipes, and basically anything we usually try to hide when building a house. Decoration items include old metal items, hardwood shelves, and things that remind you of the hard-working industrial era in America. An easy way to remember this design is to think of a commercial warehouse or kitchen that is made into a house or apartment.

Both of these design styles have many similarities such as the use of wood from metal but the colors and finishes of wood and metal are different. It’s very common today to find people who mix and match between these two styles to create a rustic industrial-style home. They complement each other well and make a comfortable, yet practical home. You can find many pictures of rural industrial houses on the internet for more details about how they work together.
